An August 5, 2011 press release finds that men and women having more education and higher attainment make more money than people with less education. Degree level matters most. However occupational choice can trump degree level: Men and women with less education can earn more money than those with more education, depending on the occupational choice. The study by Carnevale, Rose, amp; Cheah at The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce also finds that women make less than men at every level of educational attainment (see Figure 4 of the study). Over a lifetime, women with a Ph.D make as much money as men having only a Bachelor's degree. Another interesting find is the money made by men and women over a lifetime by race (Figure 5). The National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) has obtained an NSF grant to choose ten public libraries to host an interactive exhibition called Discover Earth: A Century of Change. The libraries are to partner with local NGCP collaboratives to encourage girls to attend the exhibit and associated activities. Discover Earth is part of the STAR Library Education Network and is led by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute. Partners include the Lunar and Planetary Institute and the American Library Association. NGCP asks you to encourage your local library to apply by September 2, 2011. Please see:
