On July 22, 2009 there will be a solar eclipse, viewable in parts of Asia, and the Pacific Ocean. What makes this particular eclipse special is that it is the longest one in the 21st century. It is also the one of three eclipses in the period of a month, with lunar eclipses taking place on July 7 and August 6.
The line of totality (outlined blue in the picture), or the areas from where a total eclipse can be seen, will pass through areas in India and China. To find out more information on where the eclipse will be viewable, you can visit NASA's page or the Wikipedia page about the eclipse. If you are in the line of totality, or even in an area where the eclipse is partially visible, you should make an attempt to view it. However, in order to view an eclipse, special equipment is necessary so as not to damage your eyes.
