1. Job Interview Advice
From: Laura Trouille [womeninastronomy.blogspot.com]

With the job application season coming to a head, we thought it would be useful to share potential questions astronomers and physicists may be asked during a phone interview for a tenure track university faculty position. This is the first in a series of posts with job application resources for academic and non-academic positions.

Potential Questions:

Teaching: - What are your teaching interests? Which courses would you be interested in teaching?

- How would you handle X teaching situation? (relevant to intro courses through advanced courses)

- Some variation on - what is your teaching philosophy?

- If you were allowed to develop any course you like, what would it be?

2. CSWA is now on Twitter!
From: Nancy Morrison [NMorris_at_UTNet.UToledo.Edu]

CSWA now has a Twitter account. If you use Twitter, please search for "AAS CSWA" or follow @AAS_Women.

As its manager, I'll be aiming for about one tweet or retweet per day. I'll provide news about web resources and pass along the best tweets I receive from organizations and news sites that are relevant to women in science and that I am following. (Suggestions of more people to follow would be more than welcome.) Followers of @AAS_Women will be able to send a short reply or comment.

If you are new to Twitter and would like to join, please follow these instructions kindly provided by Michele Montgomery:

Go to the link that is now on our home page [in the left side menu], namely

https://twitter.com/#!/@AAS_Women

you will see our Twitter home page, together with a box inviting you to give your full name and email address and choose a password and thereby join Twitter. Once Twitter confirms your email address, you can return to the above link and you'll see a button labeled "Follow" which, when clicked, will make you a follower of our page. 3. 2013 OUSTA Award of the Society for College Science Teachers
From: WIPHYS, March 1, 2012

Nominations are now being sought for the 2013 Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award (OUSTA) granted by the Society for College Science Teachers (SCST). A nominee need not be a member of the SCST. Nominations may be made by colleagues or students and self-nominations are also encouraged! The purpose of the OUSTA is to recognize the achievements of our teaching colleagues who have enhanced the profession as outstanding teachers of science. This annual award is based upon a selection process that evaluates nominees according to the following ranked categories: 1) teaching excellence; 2) scholarship; and 3) service.

For details regarding the nomination and application process, visit

http://www.scst.org/grants/ousta .

The deadline for application materials is June 1, 2012. Please send names of potential nominee/applicants to csandler_at_mich.edu . We will follow-up with everyone to provide further materials and details about the application process. We are also interested in hearing from you if you are considering self-nomination so that we can guide you through the process.

5. Transitioning to Faculty Life: A Conference
From: Nancy Morrison [NMorris_at_UTNet.UToledo.Edu]

May 31-June 2, 2012 Hyatt Place Columbus/OSU

'The goal of this conference is to provide Postdoctoral Scholars from groups historically underrepresented in Engineering and Natural Sciences the opportunity to network and access information and materials necessary for a successful transition to a faculty position at CIC [Committee on Institutional Cooperation] universities or similar research intensive institutions.

The conference is also designed to provide recruitment opportunities for CIC departments and programs anticipating faculty hires in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The intent is to match potential faculty recruits with open searches at CIC universities.'

'... There is no registration fee for the conference. Participants are responsible for travel, hotel, and meals not included in the conference. Space is limited. Registration will close when maximum number of participants has been reached.' [On Registration page]
